The Deputy Communications Commissioner and Chair of the ERGP Mr. Petros Galides was a speaker at the “6th UNI Europa Post & Logistics Conference“

Mr. Petros Galides, Deputy Communications Commissioner and Chair of the ERGP - European Regulators Group for Postal Services for 2022-2023, accepted an invitation to be  a speaker at the "6th UNI Europa Post & Logistics Conference” that was held in Dublin on 14-16 November 2022.

Mr. Galides analysed the position of ERGP on the future of Regulation in postal services in the context of changing consumer needs resulting from what is perhaps the most radical transformation in the history of postal services due to developments such as the increase in e-commerce and the decrease in letter mail.

The Chair of ERGP emphasized the need for a forward-looking perspective and the need for the regulatory framework to correspond to the contemporary and developing needs of users, to ensure fair competition, good quality jobs and environmental sustainability. He also stressed the importance of cooperation between the regulators and the workers’ unions in achieving a revision of the regulatory framework for proper functioning and development of markets and, given new players and business models, for ensuring a level playing field and the protection of all workers and consumers.

Postal Worker Union representatives from all over Europe and the USA, and the European Commission, among others, attended the Conference, organised by UNI Europa and UNI Global.  The Conference gave participants the opportunity to present and discuss the crucial issues that workers and the postal sector are currently facing.
